These simple updos will give you beautiful hairstyles for a prom or special evening out.

Holiday season is a time for special updo hairstyles. With limited time, hair needs to look good in a hurry, and be easy to do. This classic French Twist and Chignon are simple and elegant. Make the twist soft and loose looking, almost as though you took a nap with your hair up before going out.

A few loose tendrils left out and curling towards your shoulders are a romantic frame for this look

French Twist

There are both complicated and simple ways to style hair in a French Twist. This is a simple version. If your hair is particularly long or heavy, you may need a more complicated style. This version is loose and relaxed, which goes with today's look more than the traditional styles of the past.

1. Pull hair loosely back into a ponytail, about midway down the back of your head and a little left of center, holding hair in the left hand, but not securing. Twist it a few times to help hold it in place and give a good base.

2. Point the tail straight towards ceiling. Starting from ends, tuck and curl the tail all the way down until you reach the twisted base.

3. Grasp the middle of the entire looped form and twist it to the right, folding the left of the twist to the right, over and over itself, until there's the whole thing is tight.

4. Pin securely with hairpins.

Flaunt your sexy new hairstyle.

Simple Chignon

A chignon is another beautiful classic updo that is easy to do and looks gorgeous with eveningwear. Like all updos, a soft relaxed version is most modern.

1. Looking into a mirror, arrange the front of your hair the way you want it to look, with a part or bangs or simply pulled straight back.

2. Pull remaining hair into ponytail and secure with elastic band.

3. Beginning with the top section of tail, separate out a section and brush straight up. Begin rolling down from end of that section all the way down to base, curling forward toward the crown. Secure in place with a pin.

4. Continue curling and pinning sections of hair all around base of ponytail.

Depending on the length and thickness of your hair, the individual curls can be uniform in size and placement or more random and loose.

A scarf or other accessory can be tied around the base of the ponytail before you begin curling sections, then leave the tails of the scarf hanging down. Works particularly well with a sheer chiffon fabric.

Enjoy your look and your evening knowing you have a special hairstyle that, once secured, can be confidently forgotten about the rest of the night.
