3 Tips For Renewing Those Dry Tresses In Time For Spring

Mar 16, 2009 Elena Lipson

Spring is just around the corner, yet the temperature gauge and the dry hair on your head is still feeling the sting of winter. Here are a few tips to kick start Spring.

The winter chill and windy weather can be ultra damaging to skin, hair and scalp. There are times when the full salon treatment is just the right remedy for soothing the winter blues. With tighter wallets and tougher economic times, turning green and simple may be the way to go. For now, the salon gets replaced by the fridge and the pantry with these simple do-it-yourself home remedies. There are a few at home tricks to restore the moisture while waiting for the warmer weather to arrive.

Organic Yogurt Moisture Mix

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups of plain organic yogurt (try greek yogurt for that extra richness)
  • 1 tbsp freshly squeezed organic lemon juice (bottled will do in a pinch)
  • 1 organic egg yolk
  • 1/4 tsp organic olive oil

Mix the ingredients in a glass bowl until it reached a creamy consistency. Apply generously to your hair, starting at the scalp. Massage into your hair and scalp. Discard any left over mask (or use it to massage your hands). Leave the mixture on for around twenty minutes. While waiting for the yogurt magic to do its thing, turn up that music and dance dance dance. Shampoo as normal with a natural or organic shampoo that is free of parabens.

Hold The Bread Mix

Ingredients

  • 1 cup organic olive oil (can use more or less depending on hair length)

This is one of the most simple and effective go to dry hair remedies that can be used often. Before shampooing, massage the olive oil into your hair and wrap in a clean (organic) cotton towel. While waiting 20-30 minutes for the oil to work its wonders, get out that journal and jot down all the things you are grateful for in your life.

Go Bananas Over Honey Mix

Ingredients

  • 1 large ripe organic banana (contains an amino acid called tryptophan which is great for hair health)
  • 4 tbsp cup organic honey
  • 3 tbsp organic olive oil
  • add distilled or filtered water as needed to create a smooth consistency

Combine ingredients in a large bowl and mash with a fork. A few seconds in a blender will also work well to create a very smooth mix. Add the mixture to damp hair and work into scalp with massaging motions. Cover with a clean organic towel or shower cap. While you are waiting soak your feet in a mix of warm water with epsom salts and some lavender oil...sit back and relax as both ends get pampered. After 20-25 minutes, shampoo as normal.
