Many women seem to be determined to make themselves look ugly! Not only do they dress badly - but they also take no care of their hair! And it's your hair we're going to talk about. Hair is called the "crowning glory", and there is no woman who looks good with badly styled hair in bad condition.
Feeling good about yourself is about you taking pride your looks – so let's start from the top and use your hair to your advantage. Everybody's face is different – and that means that a hairstyle that looks good on one person will not necessarily look good on another. And remember: even big stars have "bad hair" days.
The first step in getting great hair is to find a good hairdresser. One who is prepared to spend an appointment with you before they begin just listening to you. What your lifestyle is, what you want to be able to do, and what your limitations are (my hairdresser knows that if she gives me a style that needs to be blown dry every day to look good, she has just wasted her time and my money. I have no time to blow dry... and just cannot do it).
A good hairdresser will give you a good cut, not just a style. They will also look at your hair and see how it curls (or not), what direction it grows in and what conditon it is in. Be prepared for your first appointment to be expensive. Your hairdresser will spend a lot of time with you – and if your hair is in bad condition, they will need to address that first and spend time on that.
Be bold. If you have always wanted to try a colour, now is the time to go for it! Or why not some highlights, or even lowlights? (Lowlights look great if you have very dark hair).
If you have a picture of the type of style you like, by all means take it in. But don't just choose a style because it looks good on somebody else. Sit down and ask youself what it is that you like about the stye. (Is it short or long? Does it seem easy to care for? Is her hair is as curly as yours, and soon). This will help you and the hairdresser adapt it for your particular face and look. Let's face it – only Jennifer Aniston looks good in her particular hairstyle, but other women can look good in variations on it!
The bottom line is: if your hairdresser is not willing to put in the time to sit down and work with you to get what you wan, then they are the wrong hairdresser and you should find a new one. It may also be that it will take several visits to the Salon to achieve the final look you are after. But it's definately worth it, so stop hiding under all that hair!
